DEADLINE JUST TWO WEEKS AWAY! The 7th annual JTVA Vocal Competition welcomes exceptional singing in genres from opera, oratorio and art songs, to jazz, musical theater and cabaret standards. There are no specific age, education or residency requirements. Two levels of competition based on vocal experience are offered and ALL finalists receive a cash award. Awards total $50,000, as well as soloist performance opportunities with the Oakland Symphony and a July 2021 music festival in Provence, France. Respiro Opera, NYC is an intensive training program designed to aid the artistic development of the emerging young professional hosted at Opera America in the heart of Manhattan, NY. Classes focus on the breath and physical freedom with hands on Alexander Technique, Body Mapping and Yoga specifically tailored for singers. The freeing of the body and breath is essential and compatible with all vocal techniques. Participants will work with basic stagecraft and the skill set required for today's opera performer. The Academy of Vocal Arts is devoted to training young artists with tremendous potential as international opera stars. Resident Artists from the United States and around the world are prepared through rigorous vocal instruction, coaching, and performance training. Many of the world’s most riveting opera singers began their careers at the Academy of Vocal Arts. Nearly fifty AVA alumni have joined the Metropolitan Opera’s roster since 1980, including Angela Meade, Stephen Costello, Bryan Hymel, Michael Fabiano and Ailyn Perez. As of 2017, AVA alumni have been honored to receive five of the past eight Richard Tucker Awards and five of the eleven Beverly Sills Artist Awards given by the Metropolitan Opera.
