The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is a prestigious competition, held in Oslo every two years for singers from around the world. The competition is a platform for providing career opportunities for young singers and acts as a stepping-stone to the professional music world for young artists. It also acts as a bridge builder between the Norwegian and international music scenes.
Singers of all nationalities, born in 1989 or later, may apply to take part in the competition. Several participants for each competition are also nominated by the competition’s collaborating opera academies. Through several rounds, a jury consisting of internationally renowned opera directors, singers and casting associates from some of the world's top opera houses judge the participants' efforts. Each competition culminates in a grand final concert and prize-giving ceremony with HM Queen Sonja.
The next competition will take place virtually and live 15-16 June 2021 and in Oslo 13 – 20 August 2021.
