Bologna International Opera Academy (BIOA) 2021: deadline 2/28!

Hurry! The application deadline is February 28th. Limited slots are avaliable due to the vast rollover of applications from the cancelled BIOA 2020.

 BIOA 2021, July 13 - July 28

Bologna International Opera Academy (BIOA) is an intensive top-rated summer program located in one of the most enchanting and vibrant cities in Italy. Music is etched in the heart of Bologna; it is part of the fabric of the local economy and is thriving. In 2006, Bologna was named an UNESCO Creative City of Music, a prestigious recognition honoring the city’s extraordinary musical tradition.

BIOA is a boutique-style program that offers: daily Master classes; one-on-one coaching from world-renowned opera singers, voice teachers, opera directors and coaches; and the opportunity to be immersed in Italian language and culture, while living in the picturesque and historic surroundings of Bologna. BIOA’s curriculum is carefully designed to build the proficiency and discipline that will facilitate success for those seeking a professional singing career, as well as exposing participants to professional-level opera auditions early in their careers.

BIOA focuses on standard operatic repertoire with emphasis on the works of Italian composers. Voice coaching of standard arias with the world-renowned operatic masters provides singers with a distinct advantage in the fiercely competitive audition process.
The most distinguished element of the Bologna International Opera Academy is that singers have the opportunity to be heard by and signed with opera industry professionals (numerous artists from BIOA received professional contracts with opera houses and agencies). This unparalleled opportunity, paired with performing in Bologna, greatly benefit every serious singer to complete their training and advance their professional development.

The grand finale of BIOA are two recitals of operatic arias and scenes performed in the magnificent “Sala Caracci” in Palazzo Magnani, the headquaters of Unicredit Bank, Bologna, and the historic “Sala Bossi” in the Conservatorio Giovan Battista Martini.
The opportunities available through the Bologna International Opera Academy span all levels of performance maturity–from the young artists honing their talents at the start of their careers, to the seasoned performers carving out their niche or advancing their profession.

New for 2021 is the opportunity for up to five young collaborative pianists to participate in the program. They will work under the guidance of Nicoletta Conti and Danielle Orlando to accompany our singers and to perform at the final concerts.
