These 6-month professional residencies offer transformative performing opportunities and intensive training with an outstanding faculty. All artists benefit from regular work with guest coaches Craig Rutenberg and Danielle Orlando; voice teachers Stephen King and Michael Paul; and resident coaches Ben Malensek, Greg Ritchey, Tim Cheung, and Ksenia Leletkina. Benenson Young Artists sing supporting roles and cover lead roles alongside international casts, while Bailey Apprentice Artists cover supporting roles and perform throughout our beautiful community in concerts.
Film and stage actor Dietlinde Turban Maazel, soprano Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs, and Mo. Michael Recchiuti offer an intensive curriculum that focuses on the performance of operatic music: languages, study techniques, interpretation, body movement, and wellness. MISSISSIPPI OPERA PRESENTS: THE JOHN ALEXANDER NATIONAL VOCAL COMPETITION AND CONCERT. The sixth annual John Alexander National Vocal Competition for opera and musical theatre singers will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi. This competition is presented by the Mississippi Opera in order to identify and recognize outstanding vocal opera and musical theatre talent from all over the United States. The competition is a national level competition for opera and music theatre singers between the ages of 18 to 40. The Sullivan Foundation seeks exceptionally talented young opera singers who are still taking early steps but show promise for significant careers. Winners receive initial prizes and then are eligible for additional role preparation grants in future years, a unique feature of the Foundation's support. 2019 auditions will be held in New York on November 10 and 11.
