Applications will close in 2 weeks for Mascarade Opera, an opera training and performance programme at the Mascarade Opera Foundation in Florence, Italy for exceptionally talented young singers and répétiteurs. The programme offers personalised coaching and intensive skills training designed to prepare artists for professional careers. Through strong partnerships with leading opera houses and agencies across Europe, participants gain vital stage experience and industry exposure. Places on the programme are entirely funded with artists receiving tuition, maintenance and accommodation grants equivalent to entry-level salaried positions in the industry. Schmidt Vocal Arts is excited to once again offer an online competition for undergraduate singers: The Schmidt Vocal Competition Undergraduate Awards. This online competition will be held in Dec. 2025-Feb. 2026, culminating in a live-streamed awards ceremony on Feb. 14, 2026. Applications open Nov. 3! UPPER DIVISION: Four (4) Winners - $5,000 each. Auditions are underway for our 2026 season. Shows confirmed for the season are La Cenerentola, The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Fiddler on the Roof. Remaining auditions will be held in Dallas, New York City, Atlanta and virtually November.  We have been preparing resident artists for the professional world of opera since 1982.  Soprano Jordan Lee Gilbert (seen here) as Susanna in Act 3 of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Resident Artist 2025). Canto returns to Northern Virginia with a summer program devoted to every aspect of operatic performance, musical style, interpretation, language, diction, and stagecraft. Emerging artists train with distinguished faculty from the Juilliard School, the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, and Les Maîtres Sonneurs. Renowned soprano Elizabeth Futral and a faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory joins us as special guest artist. Singers engage in intensive role study and professional video recording, while the second edition of the Canto Festival offers multiple performance opportunities at the Dreamscapes Performing Arts Center in Sterling, VA.

Opera Mississippi's John Alexander National Vocal Competition deadline is October 31, 2025!  Divisions include Young Artist (age 18 - 24 as of October 31, 2025) and Professional Artist (age 25 – 45 as of October 31, 2025). Categories include Opera and Crossover. Singers may compete as a Young Artist or Professional Artist in Opera and/or Crossover categories. Singers who wish to compete in both categories must submit two videos for both categories, select BOTH, and pay the $60 application fee at checkout.
