MISSISSIPPI OPERA PRESENTS
THE JOHN ALEXANDER NATIONAL VOCAL COMPETITION AND CONCERT
The sixth annual John Alexander National Vocal Competition for opera and musical theatre singers will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi. This competition is presented by the Mississippi Opera in order to identify and recognize outstanding vocal opera and musical theatre talent from all over the United States. The competition is a national level competition for opera and music theatre singers between the ages of 18 to 40. The six final winners of the competition will be presented in concert with chamber orchestra on Monday, October 21, 2019.
Competitors will compete with 2 selections, either operatic arias or musical theatre selections, in either the Student Artist Division (age 18-25) or the Young Professional Artist Division (age 26-40). Three winners will be chosen from each division. There will be six monetary prizes ranging from $300 to $1,000. Also, winners will be given priority consideration for roles in upcoming Mississippi Opera productions.
The concert on Monday, October 21, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. will be presented at Duling Hall (622 Duling Ave.) in Jackson, Mississippi. If you are a winner, you must be able to be in Jackson, Mississippi from 10-19-2019 through 10-21-2019 for rehearsals and the concert.
