For more details, visit lyrique-rouergue.com

All activities take place in the ‘Bastide Royale,’ the historic medieval center of the old town, including in its charming theater, a spectacular baroque chapel, and the main town square. The program runs for five weeks, from 24 June to 28 July 2024, as part of a summer festival that includes full productions with orchestra of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Offenbach’s M. Choufleuri restera chez lui, masterclasses, and several concerts of French art song, opera, and other vocal music.

Costing significantly less than many other European Young Artist Programs, Lyric Arts France also offers a variety of Tuition & Scholarships ranging from full-rides to support for tuition or accommodation and food.

Lyric Arts France is intended for emerging young professional singers, with opportunities for solo performance for all participants, and for pianists, stage directors, stage managers, and arts administrators from around the world.

Lyric Arts France will function in a variety of languages, principally in English, French, and German as needed. The program offers a marvelous opportunity to enrich your understanding of French music, culture and language, to live and work in the heart of France for five weeks, and to broaden your knowledge of French and European opera and vocal literature. It is designed to offer a wide range of solo performance opportunities for all participants.

PROGRAM DATES
The program runs for five weeks, from June 24 to July 28 2024, in Villefranche-de-Rouergue in the Aveyron département in France.

FEES
Fees for tuition, including individual coachings and voice lessons as well as group sessions, are $3,000 US for five weeks. (Prices are quoted in US dollars but can be paid in a variety of currencies.) Please see more details at Tuition & Scholarships.

HOUSING
Festival accommodation is available in one- and two-bedroom mini-apartments with their own en-suite bathroom facilities and kitchenette at the Institut Marty in Villefranche, walking distance from the venues for all our activities. If you wish to take advantage of festival accommodation the cost is $1,250 US per person for five weeks. Otherwise you are welcome to supply your own accommodation.

FOOD
Three meals a day Monday through Friday are offered at the Institut Marty for the full five-week period for $1,000 US, or you can choose to eat independently.

SCHOLARSHIPS
A number of full- and partial-scholarships will be available—please see details in Tuition & Scholarships.

SOLO ROLES
We work hard to cast all Young Artists in as many appropriate solo roles as possible, as well as in all cover roles. Most roles are double-cast, and the Knaben/Spirits in The Magic Flute will be sung by three young women. Most Young Artists also sing in the ensemble for The Magic Flute, and all participate in the concert and late-night cabaret programs as well. Please see more in Roles & Repertoire.

TRAINING
The program will have a strong training element, and artists will work with world-class singers, directors, conductors, coaches, and choreographers both in production rehearsals and in training sessions, which will include individual and group vocal and repertoire coaching, masterclasses, auditioning classes and career seminars addressing opportunities in Europe and the United States. There will also be a focus on singing in French and French arias and Art Song.

TRANSPORTATION
Each artist is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from Villefranche-de-Rouergue. The nearest international airport is Toulouse (two hours drive or a train ride from Toulouse town center); the nearest budget airlines airport, served amongst others in the summer by Ryanair, is Rodez (thirty minutes drive). There is a mainline railway station (but not TGV) in Villefranche-de-Rouergue accessible from all areas of France and Europe. The festival may be able to pick travelers up at airports and the station depending on arrival times.

AUDITIONS
Auditions can be submitted immediately as video recordings online for singers; there is also the possibility of live auditions in-person in a limited number of cities. These take place in France in Bordeaux, Toulouse and Villefranche-de-Rougergue; in the UK in London; and in the USA in Denton, TX, close to Dallas and Fort Worth. They will take place in late November/early December.
