The 53rd International Vocal Competition LiedDuo: Apply now!

 

The International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch (IVC) was founded in 1954 and is the sole classical vocal competition in the Netherlands that involves oratorio and art song as well as opera, with much attention also being paid to 20th century and to contemporary music. The IVC is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) and fervently supports the discovery and development of young vocal talent.

The 53rd Competition is held 20-24 November 2019 in 's-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) and involves Lied repertoire for singer-pianist duos.

The International Jury includes prominent musicians such as soprano Dame Felicity Lott (president), mezzo-soprano Jard van Nes, baritone Thomas Oliemans, pianists Graham Johnson and David Selig, and programmer Mirjam Wijzenbeek (Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam).
Prize money: more than € 15,000 plus engagements.
Masterclasses, jury feedback, travel refund possible for finalists, accommodation at host families.
All rounds open to the public.

Candidates for this year’s competition can apply for several live First Round auditions or submit their application via YouTube.

Age limit
Singers: born on 25 November 1988 or later
Pianists: born on 25 November 1983 or later
Participants are not younger than 18 years

The IVC is open to singers and pianists of all nationalities.They must have completed conservatory training or have reached an equivalent level of training.

In the LiedDuo category singers must enroll with their regular recital partner for the First Round, who will be the candidate's permanent pianist for the Semi-finals and Final of the Competition proper. Singer and pianist duos may only enroll in a one combination for the Competition. In other words, pianists may not enroll with different singers.

Prizes
Eugène Pannebakker LiedDuo Prize € 7.500
The first prize will be awarded after the Finals. The Eugène Pannebakkerfonds is the main sponsor of this Prize.
 
"Oh che tranquillo mar" Song Prize € 1.750
The  "Oh che tranquillo mar" Song Prize will be awarded to the Duo that according to the jury is the best interpreter of the compulsory piece by Sylvia Maesen. It will be performed by all Duos in the Semi-Finals. Two Duos will be nominated to perform the composition during the Finals on the 24th of November 2019.
 
Rudolf Jansen Prize € 1.500
The Rudolf Jansen Prize is named after the famous Dutch pianist Rudolf Jansen and will be awarded to a pianist that has made it to the LiedDuo Finals who according to the jury has distinguished him or herself technically, interpretation wise, stylistically and by his or her sensibility.
 
Edwin Rutten & Annett Andriesen Public Prize € 1.500
During the Finals the public decides to which Duo the Public Prize will be awarded.
 
Friends of the IVC Prize € 1.500
The winning Duo will be chosen during the Semi Finals.
 
Press Prize € 1.000
The Press Jury will choose the winner of this Prize during the Semi-Finals
 
Junior Jury Prize € 500
The Junior Jury consists of students of various Dutch Conservatories. The winner will be decided upon after the Semi Finals.
