Canto Vocal Programs – Virginia offers emerging opera artists an immersive summer experience designed to advance both artistry and professional skills. Participants receive expert coaching in musical style, interpretation, language, diction, and stagecraft from world-class faculty led by Canto’s founders: Lucy Arner, Sharon Mohar, and Liora Maurer. Guest faculty includes Justina Lee (The Juilliard School), Steven White (Metropolitan Opera), Ken Weiss (Washington National Opera), and Maurice Lugassy (Les Maîtres Sonneurs). We are thrilled to announce that Elizabeth Futral, celebrated soprano and faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory, will be joining our program as a guest artist.
Participants engage in intensive role study and create professional video recordings, gaining hands-on experience that strengthens performance skills and prepares them for auditions and the stage. The program offers multiple performance opportunities, including extended scene concerts and outreach events, at the Dreamscapes Performing Arts Center.
Canto fosters a supportive, collaborative environment where all singers, from emerging artists to seasoned professionals, receive individualized guidance, mentorship, and the chance to refine their craft, expand their repertoire, and grow as complete artists in a world-class training setting.
Tailored and customized for gifted singers of every level — from undergraduates and recent graduates to semi-professionals and professionals — the program offers personalized training to support each artist’s unique growth.
