This four-week intensive opera program for the collegiate, pre-professional singer (18 years and older) combines language and musical study with Italian cultural immersion. Program participants work closely with a faculty of internationally distinguished artists, teachers, coaches, conductors, and stage directors. You will develop your singing-acting craft, musical interpretation, and artistry—all in the heart of Tuscany. Seagle Music Colony is the oldest and one of the most distinguished summer vocal training programs in the United States. The 104th season in 2019 will include productions of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, EVITA, OKLAHOMA as well as the children's opera MONKEY & FRANCINE IN THE CITY OF TIGERS and a concert performance of LE TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN. Each of the 32 singers chose for our summer program is guaranteed at least one featured role. Opera Lucca is a summer festival for singers and pianists in the hometown of Giacomo Puccini. It will be held at the Lucca Italian School in the summer of 2019, June 9th through July 6th. We specialize in teaching Italian opera and art song, with an emphasis on the language. Our distinguished faculty are either native Italian speakers or experts in operatic Italian: Peter Volpe, Cynthia Lawrence, Antonella Gozzoli, Elvia Puccinelli, Marcello Cormio, and Raphael Fusco. In addition to lessons and performance opportunities, students take daily Italian conversation classes. Host family accommodations are also available. Following the great success from the previous six years, OCAVA announces the 7th OCAVA-in-Rome 2019 Summer Program for singers in Rome, Italy (June 16 to July 7). The young vocal artists from the United States and abroad will come to Rome to work with an internationally renowned faculty on this intensive 3-week program that combines daily voice lessons and Italian language classes, weekly master classes, lectures/workshops, group discussions, and three public concerts. This 3-week program is open to high school and college students/graduates, and accomplished amateurs who want to develop performance skills, improve vocal technique, and actively participate in music making and performances in a highly professional atmosphere.
Classical singer: Are you a complete performer who can act as well as sing? The Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition is for you! Download an application from comicoperaguild.org. Singers will perform Saturday, March 2, before a panel of professional singers during the day. They must sing two selections, one displaying technique and one displaying acting ability. Seven finalists will be chosen to perform in the evening, from which three winners will be awarded prizes of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000. All finalists will receive $300; there are additional awards for Young Artist and Audience Favorite. Lunch is provided, and every contestant will receive a critique of their performance. Entries must be in by Feb. 1, 2019.
