So too, did Kurt Weill, Langston Hughes, and Elmer Rice innovate in 1946 when they collaborated to write the extraordinary American opera, STREET SCENE. With the complex, tragic, fun & funny cast of Street Scene as the focus of our Spring Session, guest director, Dan Wallace Miller will take us on a deep-dive into the tools required to build a three-dimensional character within a larger story. In 2021, Russian Opera Workshop continues as a Virtual Role Study Workshop. Auditions are not required and spots are limited. ABOUT: Russian Opera Workshop is a privately operated, independent program, located in summer residence at the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia. Founded in 2011, by Ghenady Meirson (AVA, Curtis), the program is focused on one Russian opera per session, offering intensive language and vocal training, and public performances.

This online competition will be held in April and May 2021, culminating in an online master class and livestreamed awards ceremony on May 22, 2021. SVC Undergraduate Awards will feature 4 WINNERS, each with a $5,000 cash award! Additional cash awards for Finalists and Encouragement. Apply Today for the 2021 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition. The Jensen Foundation supports America’s most promising young opera professionals with its annual Vocal Competition. Singers compete for their share of $40,000 in awards, including a $15,000 First Place award. The 2021 Jensen Competition is 100% virtual. Our competition environment is well-organized and supportive. Preliminary judges choose twelve finalists, based on their video-auditions, and then Finals Judges, who are distinguished in the world of opera, choose winners based on video-auditions. After the competition, finalists may request feedback from the judges. The deadline to apply is March 14, 2021, so apply today!

The Schmidt Vocal Institute (SVI) nurtures and mentors the development of talented high school singers who wish to pursue studies in music performance or education. The most distinguished element of the Bologna International Opera Academy is that singers have the opportunity to be heard by and signed with opera industry professionals. Numerous artists from BIOA received professional contracts with opera houses and agencies. New for 2021: up to five young collaborative pianists to participate in the program under the guidance of Nicoletta Conti and Danielle Orlando to accompany our singers and to perform at the final concerts.

Classic Lyric Arts 2021 features two intensive and immersive summer programs held in New Lebanon, NY. Participants receive daily coachings, rehearsals, and language classes with our esteemed European and American faculty. Session I - French Repertoire: 6/28 - 7/12 is dedicated to exploring the traditions and nuances of singing French opera and mélodie. Session II - Italian Repertoire: 7/26 - 8/9 develops skills of bel canto repertoire: lyric diction, phrasing, style, dramatic presentation, and the musical elements of the Italian language.
