In 1977 the Oratorio Society of New York inaugurated an annual Solo Competition designed to encourage the art of oratorio singing and to give talented young singers an opportunity to advance their careers. The competition has become international in scope, well-known in the music world, and is the only major competition to focus exclusively on oratorio singing. $22,000 in cash prizes. Bay View Music Festival is seeking to fill all roles in Mozart's Don Giovanni, which will be produced in original language with chamber orchestra in four performances. Dates are June 18 - July 31 and the opportunity can be combined with the American Spiritual Intensive July 31-August 10. The Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition has been held since 2000. Previously held in Jackson, MI, it has now been relocated to Ann Arbor, MI. Singers are judged by a distinguished panel on two songs, one a technical number and the other a number from light opera. From the initial round, finalists are chosen to compete in the finals round in the evening. Cash awards will be presented. Vocal quality and the ability to act and entertain are given equal weight. The competition was named for a man who followed a long professional career with years of teaching singers how to succeed. The current panel will give all entrants advice on building their presentation as well.

Taos Opera Institute was established as an intensively holistic program designed to bridge the gap between academia and apprenticeships. Our philosophy focuses on integrating and improving your technique, your physical well being, and your artistry. TOI is centered in the Taos Ski Valley, NM, at 9500ft, where 28 Young Artists spend 5 weeks working with our Faculty. Singers receive 4 lessons per week (in 4 languages), totaling an entire semester's worth! Singers perform their arias in 2 public performances weekly, for a total of 8 aria performances. Numerous additional performance opportunities are presented as well. Guest Faculty present sessions on acting technique, art song prep, performance anxiety, and much more.
Applications are now being accepted for the 10th Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka, to be held from Nov. 14 to Nov. 22, 2026. The 1st prize winner will receive 3 million yen (approximately USD $19,000).
