Young Patronesses of the Opera

YPO/FGO Competition Application 2013

This application closed on Friday February 1, 2013.

The Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera Voice Competition takes place in Miami, Florida, on April 26 and 27, 2013. It provides financial aid to young singers who are pursuing careers as solo artists. This support may be applied to tuition at the undergraduate or graduate level, or may be used for any other expenses incurred in the pursuit or sustaining of a beginning career, such as role preparation, continuing vocal study, language study, publicity photos, or audition expenses.

Competitions are held in two categories: Junior Young Artist (20-25) and Senior Young Artist (26-30). Singers must provide a repertoire list of five arias from the opera repertoire, with audio versions of at least two. The same rep list must be used for all levels of the competition, so please make sure that your list is finalized by the February 1 deadline.

Approximately 30 semifinalists will be invited to Miami to audition for the judges on Friday, April 26. 12 finalists will be invited to audition before the judges and a live audience on Saturday, April 27. All finalists will be awarded at least $1,000, with grand prizes of $8,000 (Senior) or $7,500 (Junior). Semifinalists who don't advance to the finals will receive a small stipend to help defray the costs of attending the competition.
