Audition Requirements/Selections

Audition Selections*

Young Artist & Professional Singers: Prepare three art songs in three different languages and an aria. Applicants are encouraged to include a song in English as part of their selections. Optional: you may prepare a fifth selection that highlights a special interest: (musical theater, oratorio, new music, aria etc.)

Pianists: Prepare four selections – two art songs in contrasting style and two other works of your choice - arias or additional songs; one of these may be a solo work. Minimum number of selections permitted: 3. Maximum number of selections permitted: 4

The SongFest Art Song Prize will offer 2 young artists (one 1 singer and one 1 pianist) the opportunity of working closely, coaching, planning, and editing your program with pianist Martin Katz. Each winning performer will receive a cash prize of $1,000 (plus full tuition) and will receive private coachings and suggestions for the program by Mr. Katz. Those who wish to be considered for the prize must submit a draft of their program and a description of the event along with their SongFest Application (uploaded below), understanding that the inventiveness of the program, description of their event, and quality of their application materials will be considered when awarding the prize. Recitation, poetry, thematic and any other enhancements are suggested. Please refer to the website for some examples. The winning duo will perform on the Brown Loranger Fellowship Recital and will be selected by SongFest’s artistic leadership from the list of invited participants. Please visit the SongFest website for complete rules. Both duos and single applicants will be considered. Fee Disclosure and Signature

A non-refundable $700 housing fee deposit (which will be credited to the balance of housing) is due and must be received two weeks after written acceptance into the program. Tuition: is due in full – April 25, 2025. A partial refund of $1000 will be given on  the housing/meals if notified IN WRITING and received by April 15, 2026. After April 15, no refunds will be given on any portion of the fees (tuition/housing/meals), including the non-refundable $700 deposit.
