Background

Audition Location

Please note: only ONE location will be allowed.
Live Auditions will be at the discretion of the Artistic Director and will be scheduled in the order in which the applications arrive. Therefore, singers should apply as soon as possible. Please note that due to the large volume of applicants, submission of an application does not guarantee a live audition.

Singers: For the audition, prepare three contrasting arias from the standard repertoire. One must be in Italian to be considered for a role in Lucia di Lammermoor. One must be in English. The third aria may be in Italian, English, German, or French.

Young Artists will be considered for the following MAINSTAGE roles: In Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, performed in Italian, Normanno (Tenor), Arturo (Tenor), Raimondo (Bass), and Alisa (Mezzo). In Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, Bloody Mary (Mezzo), Luther Billis (Bass/Baritone or Baritone), and Lt. Joseph Cable (Tenor), plus additional cameo and speaking roles. Young Artists will also cover Principal Roles in both Lucia di Lammermoor and South Pacific. Young Artists will perform all roles in Mark Adamo’s Little Women: Beth (Soprano), Amy (Soprano), Meg (Mezzo), Jo (Mezzo), Laurie/ Theodore Lawrence (Tenor), John Brooke (Baritone), Gideon March/Mr. Dashwood (Bass-Baritone), and Friedrich Bhaer (Bass-Baritone).

Pianists and Conductors: For the audition, prepare a 5 minute excerpt from an ensemble section of Lucia di Lammermoor. It is helpful if you can sing some of the vocal parts to give us an indication of your language skills and your understanding of vocal writing. Pianists and Conductors who are comfortable sight reading, may be asked to play an aria for one of the singers whose audition time is near their own.

Please note that due to the large volume of applicants, submission of an application does not guarantee a live audition. Live auditions will be at the discretion of the Artistic Director and will be scheduled in the order in which the applications arrive.
