Artist in Residence Program Application (2022-23)

We will be hiring one Soprano, one Mezzo-Soprano, one Tenor, two Baritones, one Bass-Baritone and one Collaborative Pianist for the 2022-23 program.

Applicants who have been granted an audition for the 2022-23 Opera Colorado Artist in Residence Program must choose between two options:

Option 1: Live audition in Denver, CO on January 5, 2022

Option 2: Recorded audition submission, due on December 20, 2021

All applicants granted an audition must send an email to ckoepke@operacolorado.org and indicate which option they are choosing. Responses are due no later than November 24, 2021. Once your response is received, you will be assigned the appropriate status and you will be able to either select your time slot for a live audition in Denver, CO on January 5, 2022 or upload your video audition submission by the December 20th deadline.

Live Auditions in Denver, CO

Applicants that choose the option to audition live will be required to travel to Denver, Colorado and sing on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Live auditions will be held in Denver, CO on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Studio Loft in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. A pianist will be provided. Applicants are asked to provide the audition panel with a printed list of the repertoire they will offer at their audition. No other live audition dates will be offered.

Recorded Video Submissions – Due Monday, December 20, 2021

Applicants that choose the option of a recorded video audition will receive a list of 3 arias to record, selected from the repertoire list they provided. They email will come from Cherity Koepke, Director of the Opera Colorado Artist in Residence Program, ckoepke@operacolorado.org. The selected arias must be recorded in one continuous take and with live piano accompaniment. If it is not possible to record with live piano accompaniment, applicants must contact Opera Colorado to request an accommodation. Video auditions are required to be uploaded to YAP Tracker no later than December 20, 2021.

Information for Collaborative Pianist applicants

Collaborative Pianists who have been granted an audition are encouraged to select to audition live in Denver, CO on January 5, 2022. If a live audition is not possible, Collaborative Pianist candidates may submit a recorded video audition in lieu of a live audition. Audition repertoire is as follows:

Application Conditions

- I am available from September 6, 2022 –through May 31, 2023.
- I understand that I must be eligible to work in the United States of America in order to apply.
- I understand that housing will be provided during the residency. If I choose not to utilize the housing that is provided, I understand that I am responsible for providing my own housing, at my own expense.
- I understand that I am responsible for providing my own vehicle while in Denver.
- Due to the nature of the residency, it is not possible to have additional sources of employment. I understand that if committing to the 2022-23 Opera Colorado Artist in Residence Program, it is my sole form of employment.
- I understand that if committing to the 2022-23 Opera Colorado Artist in Residence Program, I will be considered for certain mainstage and cover roles in Opera Colorado’s 2022-23 season.
- I understand that my application materials must be received no later than November 5, 2021 in order to be considered for an audition. - I understand that I must submit recordings of 2 arias for pre-screening purposes.
- I have read the checklist and have included all necessary items in my application packet.
