Video First Round Audition

The First Round of auditions for the 2023/24 programme will be by video submission. All applicants will have their video considered by the first round audition panel. We would like to reassure every applicant that all videos submitted will be viewed in their entirety at least twice.

First round audition guidelines
You must submit at least three arias (maximum four), of which:

• all should be opera (no song or oratorio);
• at least two languages should be represented;
• at least one should be in English;
• at least one should be from a contemporary opera (post-1980)

If you wish to submit a fourth aria this is possible. You are welcome to submit a post-1980 English aria.

At least two of your recordings must be made in an audition setting with live piano accompaniment. Recordings must be in one take and your pianist must be in shot (multiple camera angles are accepted as long as the switching between cameras was carried out live). Additional recordings may be of you in concert. Submissions of you in opera productions will not be accepted.

Videos must be recorded no earlier than June 2022.

References must be received by the deadline of 11.59pm on Thursday 8 December 2022. It is your responsibility to contact your referees in plenty of time to ensure they are happy to provide a reference and are able to do so by the deadline.

Your application will not be valid until we have confirmed receipt of this payment. Please note this payment is non-refundable.

If the payment email account name does not match your application name, please inform us via email (auditions@nationaloperastudio.org.uk).

If you are invited to the Second Round (Monday 20 February - Tuesday 21 February 2023), you will be required to pay an additional £55. We will send you a link to pay this as part of your Second Round invitation email.

We are afraid that the National Opera Studio is unable to support applicants financially throughout their application.
