Live Audition Dates

In December 2025, selected applicants will be invited to the live auditions at the Mascarade Opera Foundation in Florence, Italy, which will be held Friday 6 February - Sunday 8 February 2026. The first day of live auditions (Friday 6 February) will consist of auditions and individual coaching sessions with members of Mascarade Opera’s Artistic Team. At the end of this first day, in the evening on Friday 6 February, up to 10 singers will be selected to proceed to the second round. The second day of live auditions (Saturday 7 February) will involve workshops and further coaching sessions for the selected singers in preparation for the final round on the third day (Sunday 8 February). The finalists will perform in a public aria concert on Sunday 8 February 2026, in front of a panel of our partner opera houses and agency partners. Directly after this concert, up to 5 singers will be offered a place on the programme. These offers will be non-binding and candidates will be given time to confirm their acceptance. Selected répétiteurs will be given an individual audition time on either Friday 6 February or Saturday 7 February. All other candidates, both répétiteurs and any singers not selected for the final round, are welcome to remain in Florence and attend the Sunday concert but are not obliged to do so. Financial support is available up to a capped amount to help artists cover their travel and accommodation costs for the live auditions depending on travel distance and the number of nights required in Florence.
Auditionees will be asked to prepare the following: Singers must offer three arias in different languages, one of which must be in Italian, and one which must include some recitative style delivery, as well as two songs. Répétiteurs will need to prepare a solo piano piece or movement of approximately 5 minutes in duration and the following two opera scenes: G. Puccini - La bohème, Act I Opening to entrance of Benoit and W. A. Mozart - Così fan tutte, Act I Scene 1. You will be asked to play while singing in the vocal lines. You will also be given some sight reading.

Two letters of reference are required. Referees can be music industry professionals with whom you have worked, including conductors, stage directors and singing teachers. Any agents and/or family relatives may NOT act as referees.
Two letters of reference must be received by the deadline or the application will not be valid. It is your own responsibility to contact your referees in plenty of time to ensure they are happy to provide a reference and are able to do so by the deadline. If any of the original referees have not responded a week before the deadline, it is recommended that you contact others so that your application can still be completed in time. Only your first 2 references will be considered so it is advised to contact additional referees in this case.
