2020/21 Barbara and Halsey Sandford Studio Artist Program Application: PIANISTS

Kentucky Opera is auditioning for the 2020/2021 Barbara and Halsey Sandford Studio Artist Program. The Studio Artist pianist serves as a coach, rehearsal pianist and performance pianist in various capacities with the company. The Studio Artist pianist will work closely with the Studio Artist Music Director and Conductors to prepare Studio Artist singers with roles and covers as well as develop their own répétiteur skills and techniques. The SA coach/pianist may serve as primary or secondary rehearsal pianist for the mainstage performances,  prepare the singers and serve as performance pianist for masterclasses, workshops, lessons, coachings and recitals. The SA coach/pianist will also prepare the singers and serve as performance pianist for engagement, marketing and patron cultivation events and performances. 

Please prepare the following audition material: 

Play AND sing one of the following Verdi excerpts:

• RIGOLETTO – “Cortigiani…” to the end of the aria
• FALSTAFF – Ford’s aria
• LA TRAVIATA – “Ah! fors’è lui che l’anima” (taking the standard cut)

Play AND sing one of the following Mozart excerpts:

• LE NOZZE DI FIGARO recitative “È decisa la lite . . .” and sextet 
• COSÌ FAN TUTTE sextet with the following recit, ending at "Inflebil metro."  

Play AND sing all of the following excerpts: 

• CARMEN Quintet “Nous avons en tête . . .”
• LA BOHÈME Act I up to Benoit’s entrance
• 20^th or 21^st century aria or art song

Applicant may be asked to sight read and/or conduct as well.
