The Elizabeth Greenfield Award is an award for those singers who identify as Black. The grant will honor a trailblazing Black singer by recognizing an outstanding present-day Black singer who is in the early stages of pursuing a professional career. It provides meaningful financial assistance to encourage and further advance the career development of a promising Black vocal artist. For complete requirements and restrictions for applying, please refer to the YAP Tracker Opportunity Listing for this application. All applicants must upload at least one video clip via YouTube. You may optionally submit a second video, but it is not required. Audio-only recordings will not be accepted.

Accompaniment may be live piano, self-played piano, pre-recorded piano track, or app-based piano. Performances with orchestra/ensemble are acceptable but should feature solo singing.

Please know that JTVA judges will evaluate submissions based on the attributes of the performance, not production quality. Each selection must be sung from memory and recorded in a single take. Videos must be recent and no older than 18 months. Each video clip must be unedited and without recording or sound enhancements. If two videos are submitted, they must be uploaded separately, and the two in total must not be longer than 15 minutes. Do NOT send videos of entire operas or concerts.

Vocal selections may be chosen from lyric theater (opera, operetta, musical theater), oratorio, symphonic vocal material, art songs, or traditional jazz and cabaret standards. While there are no repertoire requirements, applicants are encouraged to highlight performances of music by Black or African American composers. Video selections that do not meet these criteria must first be approved for submission by JTVA. Any questions about these video submission requirements may be sent to jamestolandvocalarts@gmail.com. Minimum number of selections permitted: 1. Maximum number of selections permitted: 2
