GSA - Bel Canto Course Applications (2023)

Opera Singers interested in honing their skills in the Italian opera repertoire with some of the world's leading opera singers, coaches, and conductors are invited to apply to the 2023 Bel Canto Course for Singers. Faculty for the 2023 Bel Canto Course includes: Jonathan Papp (Artistic Director, GSA), Richard Bonynge, Leo Nucci, Stefano Baldasseroni, and Jonathan Lakeland, among others.

To apply, please complete the application form below. You must include two video recordings of you singing two arias from the Italian opera repertoire. The repertoire you submit must be sung in Italian, by an Italian composer, and be written after 1810 (ie. Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, etc). You may opt to submit an aria and an Italian song, if you'd like, so long as the song meets the same composer/language requirements (ie. Tosti, Respighi, etc).

You will also be asked to provide the names, job titles, and contact information for two industry professionals (ie. voice teachers, coaches, conductors, YAP administrators, agents/managers, artistic directors/intendants, etc) who can speak to your professinalism, musical ability, and character.

Selected applicants will be offered a live audition in London, England in the last week of January, 2023. Any invited applicant that is unable to travel to London in this time will be offered an opportunity to complete the second round audition online.

Video Submission*

Please submit two videos featuring you singing two different Italian opera arias. These arias must be sung in Italian and be composed by an Italian composer after 1810 (ie. Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, etc). One of these excerpts may be an Italian art song, so long as it meets the same conditions (ie. Tosti, Respighi, etc). Arias by Mozart or Handel are not acceptable repertoire for this application. Number of selections required: 2.
