Garsington Opera - Garsington Opera Alvarez Young Artists Programme - Chorus/Young Artists (2022 Season)

Applications are open for singers for Garsington Opera's 2022 Alvarez Young Artist Programme. All applicants must be fully available for the period(s) 18 April – 6 July 2022 and/or 28 April - 20 July plus 1-15 August 2022. In all cases you must be available if required for weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

2022 Season:

Monteverdi, Orfeo in Italian (Conductor: Laurence Cummings, Director: John Caird, The English Concert)

Mozart, Così fan tutte in Italian (Conductor: Tobias Ringborg, Director: John Cox, The English Concert)

Dvořák, Rusalka in Czech (Conductor: Douglas Boyd, Director: Michael Boyd, Philharmonia Orchestra) with a possible transfer to the Edinburgh Festival in August

Britten, The Turn of the Screw (revival) in English (Conductor: Mark Wigglesworth, Director: Louisa Muller, Philharmonia Orchestra)

Most successful applicants will sing in the chorus, but applicants will also be considered for covers and small roles, which may or may not be part of a chorus contract. There is also the opportunity to take part in development performance(s), masterclasses, recitals and other enrichment activities.

Most of the roles in Orfeo have been kept open for young artists, who will make up the ensemble for that piece as well as singing roles. There won’t be any chorus commitment to any other productions for people selected for Orfeo, though some may also be asked to cover in The Turn of the Screw. Please note that the roles of Orfeo and Messagiera are cast with guest principals, though we will be looking for young artist covers for those roles.

Covers will perform a full main stage performance of Così fan tutte for a schools audience.

Please note we cannot accept applications from those on a student visa. However, we are now able to consider those who would be entering the UK on a visitor visa.

Auditions will be held in September 2021 until all chorus slots are filled. Dates will be announced soon. Please apply early - we will not wait till the application deadline to start allocating auditions, so the earlier you apply the more likely you are to get a chance to sing to us!
