Detroit Opera Resident Artist Program (2023-2024) - Singer Application

Detroit Opera will be holding its annual live audition tour in New York City and Detroit. In addition, we will be working together with other resident artist programs on a coordinated virtual audition process as an option in lieu of a live audition. Steps are outlined below to guide your understanding of this shared video audition process, followed by information about our live audition process.

Detroit Opera currently requires all applicants participating in a live audition to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit proof of vaccination prior to their scheduled audition date. Any applicant who is unable to comply with the vaccination requirement is asked to choose the virtual audition option.

Progam Dates: Septebmer 1, 2023-June 1, 2024 

VIRTUAL AUDITIONS

Step 1: Apply to each program as you normally would. Applications are due Sunday, September 11.

Step 2: Notifications of video auditions will be sent by each company by Friday, October 7. This notification will contain a link to submit a new aria list.

Step 3: Submit your aria list (one list for all programs), indicating your chosen “starter” aria, by Tuesday, October 11.

Step 4: Notification of requested arias from your list (one request for all programs) will be uploaded to your YAP Tracker application on Wednesday, October 19.

Step 5: Record a new video audition and submit the video to each company via YAP Tracker by Friday, November 4.

 

LIVE AUDITIONS (Detroit Opera Only)

Step 1: Apply to Detroit Opera as you normally would. Applications are due Sunday, September 11.

Step 2: Notifications of live auditions for Detroit Opera will be sent by Friday, October 14, 2022Information about showing proof of vaccination will be sent with audition notifications.

Step 3: Attend your live audition.

Once selected to do the live audition, pease use the self-scheduling function to select your audition time. If you need to change your time, or there isn't a time available that works for you, please email Nathalie Doucet at residentartist@detroitopera.org  and she will try to make an accommodation. If you have found someone to switch times with you, please also email Nathalie so she can update your time in YAP Tracker.

Please note: The panel for both live and virtual auditions will be the same.

New York:

November 14, 2022: 2:00pm-5:00pm

November 15, 2022: 10:00am-1:00pm

Detroit: December 3, 2022: 11:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm

Audition Repertoire

Applicants should be prepared to sing, from memory, five (5) contrasting arias demonstrating French, German, English, and Italian language aptitude. Audition repertoire may be amended at a later date. Number of selections required: 5.
