Chautauqua Opera Company is currently accepting applications for its 2026 Young Artist Program.
Chautauqua Opera Company’s 2026 season will feature a triple-bill on the Amphitheater stage and three workshops of contemporary works in development. Chautauqua Opera Company will employ up to 16 Young Artists for the 2026 season. Chautauqua Opera Company invites applications from all voice types, including countertenors.
Amphitheater Production:
Chautauqua Opera will present a one-night performance at the Chautauqua Amphitheater featuring three operas. The program will open with Richard Wargo’s The Music Shop, based on a short story by Anton Chekhov, followed by the premiere of Jeremy Gill and Jerre Dye’s Ida by Lamplight, and a remount Kamala Sankaram and Jerre Dye’s A.E. Reverie. All roles will be sung and covered by Young Artists.
Workshop #1:
Chautauqua Opera will workshop a new adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, composed by Danika Lorèn with a libretto by Royce Vavrek, in collaboration with Against the Grain Theatre of Toronto. The composer will be in residence for the full 6-week season, and the project will culminate in a public presentation of up to an hour of material with piano accompaniment.

Application Screening and Audition Review Process
Steps are outlined below to guide your understanding of this year’s audition process.
Step 1: Applications for Chautauqua Opera Company are due Friday, September 5, 2025.
Step 2: Notifications of second-round video auditions will be sent by Monday, October 6, 2025.
Step 3: Applicants who are granted a video audition will be required to record and submit two selections in one continuous video recording (without stopping the camera). Repertoire for video auditions will be selected by the singer.
Step 4: Record your video audition and submit by Monday, November 3, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
