Chautauqua Opera Company 2024 Young Artist Program

This application closed on Friday September 15, 2023.

Chautauqua Opera Company is currently accepting applications for its 2024 Young Artist Program.

Chautauqua Opera Company’s 2024 season will feature two productions, and employ up to 12 Young Artists.

Production #1: Three short chamber operas will be presented in a site-specific production on Chautauqua Institution’s grounds. A.E. Reverie and Love, Loss and the Century Upon Us, both receiving their world premieres, are the first two installments in The Summer Place, a new opera based on Chautauqua’s 150-year history. These will be paired with Pepito to make a 60-minute presentation which will have 4 performances.

Production #2: The Falling and the Rising will be given one performance in Chautauqua’s Amphitheater.

All roles, with the exception of The Colonel, will be sung by Young Artists. All roles will be covered by Young Artists.

Ancillary Events: Based on individual assignments, Young Artists in previous seasons have been asked to sing a concert with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, perform art song recitals, community outreach “Opera Invasion” events, and educational performances under the auspices of an American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) contract for Apprentice Artists, and Chautauqua Institution contract for Studio Artists.
