Interested singers must complete an application through YAP TRACKER, submitting application, resume, headshot and two high-quality video selections in contrasting musical styles. There is a $25 application fee. All semi-finalists will be chosen from the materials applicants submit.

Twenty-four semi-finalists will be invited to Austin through screening of a completed application and two high-quality video selections in contrasting musical styles. Up to ten finalists will be chosen after a semi-final round to compete for over $35,000 in prizes in a final evening competition which is open to the public.

Grand prize- $10,000- Sarah and Ernest Butler Prize
Second prize- $8,000
Third prize- $6,000
Fourth prize- $4,000
Fifth prize- $2,000- Robert DeSimone Prize
All other finalists receive an Encouragement prize- $1,000

Accompanists will be provided. Open to singers 18-36. Applicants are responsible for obtaining proper US visas, travel and lodging while in Austin. All contestants must be available for all competition events, September 28-October 1, 2026, which take place at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, Austin.

Previous BOIC prize winners are not eligible to reapply. Recipients of Encouragement Awards, as well as previous semi-finalits, are welcome to apply again.
