Opera Saratoga: Deadline Monday September 12th!

 

Applications are now open for Opera Saratoga's 2017 Summer Festival. Principal, supporting and cover role assignments are available for singers, along with opportunities for pianists/coaches, conductors and directors.

2017 SEASON INFORMATION

Three main stage productions will be presented during the summer of 2017:

FALSTAFF (Verdi): Director - Chuck Hudson; Conductor - Craig Kier
ZÉMIRE ET AZOR [Beauty and the Beast] (Grétry): Director - James Ortiz; Conductor - Lidiya Yankovskaya
THE CRADLE WILL ROCK (Blitzstein): Director/Choreographer - Lawrence Edelson; Conductor - John Mauceri

Members of the young artist program will cover all roles in all three operas, and will also be cast in the following roles:

FALSTAFF
> Roles Available for Young Artists: Nannetta (soprano), Dr. Caius (tenor), Bardolfo (tenor), Pistola (bass)
> Covers: Alice Ford (soprano), Meg Page (mezzo), Mistress Quickly (mezzo or contralto), Fenton (tenor), Ford (baritone), Sir John Falstaff (bass baritone)

ZÉMIRE ET AZOR
> Roles Available for Young Artists: Fatmé (soprano), Lisbé (mezzo)
> Covers: Zémire (coloratura soprano), Azor (tenor), Ali (character/spieltenor), Sander (baritone); Fatmé (soprano), Lisbé (mezzo)

THE CRADLE WILL ROCK
> (Note - a number of roles in THE CRADLE WILL ROCK can be sung by different voice types. There is also a significant amount of dialogue in the piece. Sides will be provided at the audition for those we are considering for roles and covers)
> Roles Available for Young Artists: Sadie Polock (soprano or mezzo), Ella Hammer (mezzo or contralto),  Sister Mister (mezzo), Editor Daily (tenor), Junior Mister (tenor), President Prexy (tenor), Steve (tenor) Gus Polock (tenor or baritone), Dauber (baritone), Yasha (baritone), Gent (baritone), Dick (baritone), Dr. Specialist (tenor or baritone), President Prexy (tenor), Professor Mamie (baritone or bass), Professor Trixie (baritone or bass), plus spoken roles.
> Covers: Moll (mezzo or contralto), Mrs. Mister (mezzo), Mr. Mister (baritone), Harry Druggist (character tenor), Larry Foreman (baritone), Reverend Salvation (baritone or bass baritone); Sadie Polock (soprano or mezzo), Ella Hammer (mezzo or contralto),  Sister Mister (mezzo), Editor Daily (tenor), Junior Mister (tenor), President Prexy (tenor), Steve (tenor) Gus Polock (tenor or baritone), Dauber (baritone), Yasha (baritone), Gent (baritone), Dick (baritone), Dr. Specialist (tenor or baritone), Professor Mamie (baritone or bass), Professor Trixie (baritone or bass), plus spoken roles.

Artists will also receive professional development opportunities throughout the summer, and will be featured on a variety of concerts including SWAN SONGS (scenes from composers' final operas),  BROADWAY IN THE 1930s (including music by Gershwin, Rogers, Weill and more); and WAND'RING MINSTRELS: A GILBERT & SULLIVAN CABARET.
