My audio files sound weird

A number of users have reported problems playing mp3s on the site even though they sound fine on their computer. Sound will play, but it will sound scratchy.

For a company's convenience, we provide a flash based player for them to listen to audio. Unfortunately, flash will only play mp3 files encoded at 11.025 kHz 22.050 kHz or 44.100 kHz sample rates. Some mp3 software defaults to 48 kHz.

If you are having this problem:

  1. Download a copy of switch (http://nch.com.au/switch. There is a version for Windows and Mac.).
  2. Launch switch
  3. Add the problem files using the Add File button
  4. Select Encoder options
  5. Change the bit rate to 96kpb
  6. Close the window and run the conversion
