We choose not to have an age limit because we recognize that people may follow various paths to an operatic career. However, we are a young artist program and most of our current artists are in their mid-twenties, so it is rare for us to hear people over the age of thirty in our preliminary auditions. If you are over 30, please explain below why you think the HGO Studio is the appropriate next step for you.

Repertoire

Audition Selections*

Audition Repertoire – Preliminary audition repertoire must show a variety of styles and be offered in at least three different languages. Operetta and oratorio arias are acceptable substitutions. Five selections should be offered including two selections with within the following criteria.

- A contemporary aria or art song in English (we suggest something composed after 1950)

- At least one aria by Mozart, Rossini, or Handel

Please note that failure to meet the above criteria may affect our decision to grant you an audition.
