This application closed on Monday August 31, 2020.
Applications are open for singers for Garsington Opera's 2021 Young Artist Programme. Due to the current situation, the programme will not be opening for public applications this year. If you have been invited to apply, please note all applicants must be fully available for the period(s) 12 April - 30 June 2021 and/or 26 April - 21 July 2021 (including weekends, evenings and bank holidays) and must have completed at least one year of post-graduate study.
Most successful applicants will sing in the chorus, but applicants will also be considered for covers and small roles, which may or may not be part of a chorus contract. Covers will perform a full main stage performance of Eugene Onegin for a schools audience. There is also the opportunity to take part in development performance(s), masterclasses, recitals and other enrichment activities.
2021 Season:
R. Strauss, Der Rosenkavalier in German (Conductor: Jordan de Souza, Director: Bruno Ravella, Philharmonia Orchestra)
Tchaikovsky, Eugene Onegin (revival) in Russian (Conductor: Douglas Boyd, Director: Michael Boyd, Philharmonia Orchestra)
Rossini, Le Comte Ory in French (Conductor: Valentina Peleggi, Director: Cal McCrystal, Philharmonia Orchestra)
Handel, Amadigi in Italian (Conductor: Christian Curnyn, Director: Netia Jones, The English Concert)
While we have announced these titles, in the hope of achieving a full and "normal" Festival, of course the safety of our artists and audience will be paramount and we may all have to be flexible. We are working on many scenarios to ensure that Garsington Opera is not dark in 2021.
To ensure everyone's safety, we are heavily reducing the number of live auditions we will hold this autumn. We expect that some offers will be made without audition. Therefore we strongly advise you to upload a video file as part of your application. If you do not submit a recording and we do not already know your work then you will not be considered either for an immediate offer or for a later audition. Please bear this in mind when submitting your recordings. We will also accept audio files, but video is recommended.
Singers are strongly advised to submit a preliminary application by 31 July after which we will begin reviewing applications and making offers. For those who need a little more time to prepare recordings, it will be possible to add audio / video to your application up until 31 August by editing your submitted application. If you are unable to get a live recording with piano filmed by the second deadline then one filmed during lockdown with a piano audio track will be accepted. If auditions are necessary and feasible, invitations will be issued in early September for slots in late September/October.
To apply for consideration for our 2021 season, please complete the form below. Questions marked with an asterisk are compulsory.
Many thanks,
Garsington Opera
