2024 Ader Emerging Artist Auditions

First round auditions will be via video submission for the 2024 season. Callback auditions will be held on December 4 and 5, 2023 in NYC or Zoom.

Charlottesville Opera provides Ader Emerging Artists with an enriching way to enhance their professional careers. Singers have performance opportunities not only in mainstage productions at The Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville but also in cover runs, performances in Broadway, Opera Greats, and New Music Concerts. Ader Emerging Artists will experience a wide array of training and performing experiences.
2024 Summer Season:
The Music Man (Meredith Willson)
Ader Emerging Artists will cover the principal roles of Professor Harold Hill and Marian Paroo. Supporting roles will be performed and covered by Ader Emerging Artists. Artists not performing or covering a role will sing in the chorus.

L'elisir d'amore

Ader Emerging Artists will cover the principal roles of Nemorino, Adina, Belcore, and Dr. Dulcamara. Giannetta will be performed and covered by Ader Emerging Artists. Artists not performing or covering a role will sing in the chorus.

 

Requirements:
Emerging Artists will be in residence in Charlottesville, VA from June 2 through July 15.  This is a paid program, with compensation varying based on role assignments and ranging from $2,250 - $3,000. Up to $250 in travel reimbursement to and from Charlottesville. 

Additionally, host housing (private room/bath in a donor's home) will be provided. Transportation to, from, and within Charlottesville is the responsiblilty of the artist. Charlottesville is a largely suburban area. Uber and Lyft services are not widely available. Artists are encouraged to bring their own vehicles or work out ride shares with fellow artists. The company will not coordinate or reimburse in town transportation.

The city of Charlottesville, located in west central Virginia, approximately 100 miles southwest of Washington, DC and 70 miles northwest of Richmond, Virginia.  Known for its architectural and historical significance and natural beauty, Charlottesville is home to the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson’s house Monticello, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Downtown Charlottesville features one of the longest outdoor pedestrian malls in the United State with stores, restaurants, and civic attractions.  The city hosts world-class entertainment such as Charlottesville Opera and has an active, highly regarded arts and theater community.
